Matt Shaw – Assistant Coach

Joined the Devils’ organization July 17, 2012...Spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with San Jose;  was named to the position in July 2009…Prior to his time with the Sharks, served as an assistant coach on Jacques Lemaire’s staff in Minnesota in 2008-09, first joining the club as a video coach in 2007-08…Spent the previous seven seasons, 2000-01 through 2006-07, as an assistant coach with Houston (IHL, 2000-01, then AHL, 2001-02 to 2006-07), while also serving as assistant general manager…Worked three seasons under current Devils’ Assistant Coach D. Barr (2000-01 to 2002-03);  was a part of the Aeros’ 2003 Calder Cup Championship team…Nineteen seasons of coaching included time spent as head coach with Quad City (UHL), guiding the club to a 53-16-5=111pt mark (.750) and the 2000 UHL Finals…First stint as head coach was with Mobile (ECHL) in 1997-98…Also served as an assistant coach with Chicago (IHL) in 1998-99 and Quad City (CoHL) from 1995-96 to 1996-97 as Mallards won the 1997 Colonial Cup…Began his coaching career as an assistant coach with his alma mater, Colorado College (WCHA), in 1989, where his duties included coordinating practices and recruiting…A defenseman, earned All-WCHA Honorable Mention honors with the Tigers in 1988-89…The native of Phoenix, AZ also played for United States International University (NCAA) in 1985-86 and 1986-87.
